CFE Treaty Isn’t Up to Reality, Putin Said
The Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty) doesn’t correspond to today’s state of affairs, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said when meeting top-ranked officers of country’s enforcement bodies.
”You are well-aware, no need to remind about it in this lecture hall, that the Treaty that was signed initially was based on existence of two blocs, NATO and the Warsaw Treaty,” president said to the big brass of Russia.

But nearly all states of the Eastern Europe have joined NATO. “The situation has drastically changed,” the president explained, pointing out that the Baltic States and some Balkan nations have never sealed the CFE Treaty in its revised wording.

“All that has come into clear antagonism with reality,” forcing Russia to suspend the CFE Treaty and other treaties related to it, the president explained.
