Fingerprints Required to Visit Europe after 2009
Under new procedures for the EU visas that take effect in 2009, those willing to visit the European Union will have to give fingerprint impression for this purpose, Italian Interior Minister Giuliano Amato told Corriere della Sera.
In Italy, the most numerous category of illegal immigrants is formed by visitors with short-term visas staying after their expiration. The visas with fingerprints will solve this problem, the minister explained.

New visas will toughen control over the EU guests, who are not residents of the European Union, addressing the problem of illegal immigration at the same time. Of interest is that, according to the polls, nearly 8 percent of Italians view illegal immigration one of the top concerns of today’s Italy.
