Bush Invites Caucasian Muftis to Rancho
The muftis of three republics of North Caucasus – Isa Khamkhoev (Ingushetia), Murat Tavkazakhov (North Ossetia) and Anas Pshikhachev (Kabardino-Balkaria) have arrived in the United States by personal invitation of President George W. Bush.
The imams left for the United States past weekend and were in New York Tuesday. They will visit rancho of Bush this week, where they will stay for two days to have a talk with the president and his father. In the next effort, the imams will make acquaintance with members of U.S. Moslem communities and meet with envoys of North Caucasian diasporas. The trip is expected to last till mid.-August.

The muftis were summoned to Moscow as soon the invitation was received. They met with President’s Administration Deputy Chief Vladislav Surkov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. “Judging by the reaction of president’s administration, the invitation was a surprise for them,” said a source with the mufti office of North Ossetia.

Despite the invitation, Adygei Imam Nurby Emizh, Chechnya’s Imam Sultan Mirzaev and Karachayevo-Cherkess and Stavropol Mufti Ismail Berdiev didn’t join the official delegation that headed for the United States.
