Guus Hiddink Influential in Russian Soccer
PROsport magazine has published a list of the 33 most influential people in Russian soccer. First place in that ranked list belongs to Guss Hiddink, coach of the national team, displacing previous leader Roman Abramovich, owner of the London team Chelsea and surpassing Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller, whose company has invested millions of dollars in the St. Petersburg Zenith team and announced the construction of a new, modern stadium in that city. Miller was not present on the list at all last year.
Fourth place went to Evgeny Giner, president of CSKA. The magazine's analysts noted that Gazprom's appearance on the soccer scene has deprived Giner of some of his former power, but he remains the most authoritative soccer manager in the country.
President of the Russian Soccer Union Vitaly Mutko is ranked fifth by the magazine, although its editors note that he “does not see the systemic problems in Russian soccer.”
The new issue of PROsport with the complete listing goes on sale on Monday.
