Russians Hail Choice of Sochi for 2014 Olympics
The Russians hail the choice of Sochi to host Winter Olympics in 2014, signaled the poll of All-Russia’s Center of Public Opinion Studies.
According to the poll, the choice of Sochi delighted 41 percent of respondents, inspired hope in 32 percent, filled with respect 25 percent and won the sympathy of 16 percent. But 1 percent condemned the news, another 1 percent took it skeptically and 12 percent were indifferent. First of all, those were respondents with rather low evaluation of their wealth (16 percent) and people of 60 years and older (20 percent).
For 97 percent of respondents, Sochi’s victory was no news actually. The share of well-informed reached 100 percent in the polls held in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Holding Olympics in Sochi would be of prime importance, first of all, for residents of that city and of the Krasnodar region, said 19 percent of respondents, while 69 percent thought it vital for country at large.
It is rather illustrative that 92 percent of the polled harbored no doubts that Russia would be able to adequately host Olympics. The share of optimists was particularly high in the age group of 18 years to 24 years (68 percent) and amid residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg (76 percent).
The poll was held July 14 to 15 in 153 settlements of 46 regions of Russia and covered 1,600; statistical error didn’t exceed 3.4 percent.
