Outraged Britain to Brief EU on Moscow Ties
London considers the decision to expel four British diplomats from Russia “completely unjustified,” Bloomberg reported Thursday quoting U.K. Foreign Secretary David Miliband.
Mr. Miliband said British authorities are disappointed that Russia refused to hand over Andrei Lugovoi, the key suspect in the murder of former FSB agent Alexander Litvinenko. Mr. Miliband added that the government is studying the Russian statement “very carefully.”

Russia’s Foreign Minister said Thursday it will expel four British diplomats and suspend counterterrorism cooperation with the UK. The plans were declared after London ordered four Russian diplomats to leave the country on Monday.

The British Foreign Secretary will also brief his EU counterparts next week on the state of ties with Russia, EUbusiness reported late Thursday, quoting European diplomats. “Miliband wants to inform European Union foreign ministers, meeting on Monday, about the refusal to extradite Andrei Lugovoi, chief suspect in the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko,” the EU’s Portuguese presidency said, EUbusiness reported. The Portuguese sources added that the European Union had not planned broad talks on EU-Russia relations.

London is pressing for the extradition of Andrei Lugovoi, the key suspect in the killing of former Russian intelligence agent Alexander Litvienko who died of poisoning in London in November. Russia says extraditions are prohibited by its constitution but Mr. Lugovoi may face court in his country if Russia receives solid evidence for the case.
