FSB Was Behind the Death Plot, Berezovsky Said
KGB’s main successor, FSB, was behind the plot to kill him, exiled Russia’s businessman Boris Berezovsky made clear at the news conference in London. But British police warned him abut the plot last month, Berezovsky said.
According to Berezovsky, 61, his friends warned him abut the plot three months ago, saying he would be killed not like Alexander Litvinenko but in a different way, by the person he knew.
Berezovsky fled from London once Scotland Yard informed him roughly a month ago about high probability of attempted murder. The businessman came back as soon as the plot was foiled.
Berezovsky harbors no doubts that Russia’s secret services were behind the plot. Former Kremlin’s mastermind and today’s fiercest critic of Putin explained that the threatening letters, which he had been receiving long before the incident, had been signed by some Ivan Ivanovich or Nikolay Nikolaevich, and that was the distinguishing feature of KGB.
British media reported Wednesday that British M15 and M16 detained a hitman who was attempting to kill Berezovsky using London Hilton Hotel as a trap.
The assassin planned to lure Berezovsky into the hotel and shoot him in the back of the head. But British detectives detained the man before he was able to execute his murderous mission.
