NATO Has 150 Days to Change Attitude
Suspension of Russia’s membership in the Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE Treaty) doesn’t mean that the strength of its western troops will be piled up immediately, said Gen. Lt. Evgeny Buzhinsky, who heads the RF Defense Ministry’s department of international negotiators.
NATO has 150 days to revise its standing on CFE Treaty, as Russia’s moratorium takes effect only on expiration of that period, Buzhinsky specified.
President Vladimir Putin inked July 13 the decree on suspending the CFE Treaty and all related international agreements “due to extraordinary circumstances related to the CFE Treaty’s content that affect security of the Russian Federation and call for immediate actions.”
The CFE Treaty has been held up “till all NATO states ratify the Adaptation Agreement and start executing this document in good faith.”
