The Kremlin Takes Time
Russia needs some time to forge the response to Britain’s decision to expel four diplomats in the wake of the Kremlin’s refusal to extradite Andrey Lugovoy, Russia’s London Ambassador Yury Fedorov said Tuesday.
”Time is needed for response. We are serious people,” RIA Novosti quoted Fedorov as saying. “The main thing today is not to give way to emotion but to practically weigh all circumstances and seek that Russia is treated as it deserves, with respect.”

According to Fedorov, quite a few officials in London advocate getting over the crisis in Russia’s-Britain’s relations. “There are some problems in our bilateral relations. We must think how to get over of the current stage. But it depends on political will of Britain’s government in many ways,” Fedorov said to comment on the standoff between Moscow and London triggered by the Kremlin’s refusal to extradite former FSB officer Andrey Lugovoy.

Lugovoy is the prime suspect in the murder case of Alexander Litvinenko, another former agent of FSB and then political refugee in Britain. The split deepened once Britain announced the decision to expel four diplomats of Russia.

The British embassy in Moscow would have been stripped of 80 diplomats already should Moscow have decided to follow London's example, the sources with the RF Foreign Ministry said.
