Bush, Kaczynski to Talk Over Details of Missile Defense Plan
U.S. President George Bush and Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski are expected Monday to go through details of the U.S. plan to station missile defense shied in Eastern Europe.
Stationing the U.S. missile defense shield will be one of the highlights of Kaczynski’s visit to the United States. In this trip, the president of Poland is accompanied by Defense Minister Aleksander Szczyglo and Deputy Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski, the key negotiator of Poland in the missile defense talks.
Kaczynski is due to visit the U.S. Air Base in Wanderberg, Calif, Tuesday, to see the underground storage facilities for the interceptors, which equivalents Poland will probably host despite the tough opposition of Russia and its proposal to use a radar in Azerbaijan.
In addition to the interceptors, Bush and Kaczynski are due to discuss Poland’s participation in military missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Kaczynski will also go to California to present Order of the White Eagle to Nancy Reagan, the widow of U.S. former president Ronald Reagan. The White Eagle that is the highest award in Poland will mark the effort of that president in communism collapse in Europe.
