Several Countries May Issue Arrest Warrants for Berezovsky – Source
Several countries may soon order to arrest the London-based Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky, following the suit of a Brazilian court, a source of the Intefax news agency said Friday.
A Brazilian federal court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant for Boris Berezovsky who is accused of money laundering at the Brazilian soccer team Corinthians.
“The Brazilian court’s warrant for Berezovsky is just the first step,” a well-informed source in Moscow told Interfax. “A number of other countries which have claims against the businessman may soon take similar steps.”
The source did not specify the countries, but said these are two or three European states. He added that police in several countries “are in active cooperation with Russia on organized crime and money laundering.” The source noted that the Brazilian order to arrest Mr. Berezovsky represents this cooperation.
Meanwhile, a trial for the Russian businessman is on at a Moscow court in his absence. Russian prosecutors suspect Boris Berezovsky of embezzlement and fraud.
