Tarpishchev Gets US Visa
Russian Fed Cup captain Shamil Tarpishchev has received a U.S. visa Thursday and is on the way to the United States for the semifinal in the women’s national tennis team competition. The Russian coach is taking an afternoon flight to Vermont on Thursday, the RIA Novosti news agency reported citing Mr. Tarpishchev.
Shamil Tarpishchev complained about a delay in issuing the U.S. visa on Monday, which left the Russian national team without a coach in pre-match training.
Russia takes on the United States in a semi-final time in Stowe, Vermont, this weekend.
Mr. Tarpishchev earlier said that he would give instructions to the players over the phone if he failed to get the entry visa.
On Tuesday, the coach who has guided Russia to Fed and Davis cup titles accused the United States of deliberately trying to disrupt the Russians’ training and called on tennis officials to move the tie to a neutral venue.
