Moscow against Playing Strategic Games in Europe, Lavrov Says
Moscow opposes playing in Europe the strategic games targeted at creating confrontational potential and basing Europe’s policy on friendly-alien grounds, RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday when speaking at the Belarus State University.
”With no one, including the United States, we see the confrontational fate. It means a new cold war couldn’t be at stake. There are no objective grounds for it,” Lavrov said. ”In modern environment, the estrangement and detachment would entail grave consequences.”
”Though retaining the right to disagree with partners, Russia is always ready for truly collective joint actions, should they be the choice of our partners,” foreign minister specified.
The minister also expressed regret at inability of the CFE Treaty member-states to close ranks at the recent extraordinary meeting.
”We are ready to continue the dialogue, but don’t understand the need of hastening with Kosovo solution or with implementation of the plans for stationing the third positional region of the U.S. national missile defense system in Eastern Europe,” Lavrov explained, suggesting enhancing the trust to begin with.
