Chavez Attaches Great Importance to Russia’s Tour
Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez announced during the Hello, President program on Sunday that he will meet representatives of business community, visit the State Duma and one of the cities in Russia.
Chavez said that after Moscow he would visit Iran and a few other states in Europe and Asia. But the president didn’t give exact names of the states.

Venezuela’s president will be in Moscow June 28 and 29 and go to Rostov-on-Don June 30, according to representative of Venezuela’s embassy in Moscow.

The true concern of Chavez in Moscow could be the contract for buying diesel submarines in Russia. The number of submarines, their type and delivery dates haven’t been determined so far.

Russia has been repeatedly emphasizing the intention to help Venezuela upgrade its armed forces. Nowadays, for instance, 196 pilots and technicians of Venezuela are being trained in Russia under the deliveries contract for Su-30MK2 aircraft and their training has nearly competed. In 2005, Russia and Venezuela sealed two contracts for supplying 15 helicopters. Next year, they entered into another contract, whereby Russia will supply 53 helicopters (Mi-17B5, Mi-35 and Mi-26) for Venezuela’s Army, Air Forces, Navy and National Guards.
