Kadyrov Hails Ulman Verdict
The award that the court passed under the Ulman case was objective, said Chechnya’s President Ramzan Kadyrov, RIA Novosti reported.
“It was a long trial, and I am sure the investigators and the court cleared up all circumstances of the case and proved the guilt of defendants,” Kadyrov emphasized.
On Thursday, the court delivered the absentee sentence for Special Forces officer Eduard Ulman, condemning him to 14 years in prison. Other accused of killing six residents of Chechnya got from 9 years to 12 years.
In January of 2002, Ulman’s reconnaissance group shot down UAZ vehicle with Chechens in it, killing a passenger and wounding the driver at first. Those who survived were ordered to get out but only be shot down as well and the officers burnt the car in the next effort.
Ulman and two more accused didn’t attend the trial; they are on the wanted list and their whereabouts are still unknown.
