NASA Astronauts Don’t Accomplish All Targets Set for 2nd Spacewalk
Space shuttle Atlantis astronauts have completed the second spacewalk, which lasted 7 hours 16 minutes, RIA Novosti reported with reference to NASA representative.
During the second spacewalk, astronauts Steve Swanson and Patrick Forrester focused on activating the S3 and S4 tuss segments. Moreover, the spacewalkers were to help fold up solar wing on the right part of ISS.
The retracting operation started even before the spacewalk, but it wasn’t completed. The spacewalkers loosened and nudged panels on the solar wing and focused on retracting the array, but they failed to fold up all sections.
NASA will attempt to finish folding up the solar wing during the third spacewalk that is slated for Thursday. The solar wing is to be folded up for smooth operation of a new set of solar panels delivered to the space station this week . The new array was unfolded Tuesday.
