Money Transfer from Macau Bank to Begin Tonight
The transfer of North Korean money stuck in Macau Bank will begin tonight, the Japanese media reported referring to anonymous source with the government of Macau. The source, however, specified neither the country of transfer nor the dates of transaction’s completion.
The funds of North Korea stuck at Macau accounts of Banco Delta Asia represent a deadlock stalling the February deal with Pyongyang on nuclear disarmament. North Korea refuses to set to shutting its Yongbyon nuclear facility as long as the funds remain frozen.

The difficulty is that the international banks aren’t particularly willing to accept that money for fear of the U.S. sanctions. But some time earlier, it was reported that Russia could be used as a banking channel for $25 million of North Korea. Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Mikhail Kamynin officially confirmed Moscow’s consent on June 13.

The initiative for Moscow’s involvement in the money transfer came from Washington, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said June 6.
