RF Economic Development Ministry Agree with Suzuki
RF Economic Development and Trade Ministry and Japan’s Suzuki and Itochu Corporation sealed an agreement in St. Petersburg Friday to launch in Russia the industrial assembly of cars, RIA Novosti reported.
The start of the plant’s construction is slated for the first half of 2008 so that it could be put into operation in the second half of 2009. The facilities will employ roughly 500, and construction budget is estimated at around 3 billion rubles.

Also on Friday, St. Petersburg government signed a cooperation memorandum with Suzuki and Itochu, whereby the city’s authorities have undertaken to provide to Suzuki a 23-hectare allotment in Shushary industrial area.

Nowadays, Suzuki is importing the cars to Russia from its Hungarian plant. The decision to construct a carmaker here roots in the company’s hope to expand in Russia and the chances are solid that Grand Vitara will be the pioneering product of future facilities.
