Lithuania Joins the Doubting
Following Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas has questioned advisability of Russia’s participation in the G8. Kirkilas clarified his standing in the interview to Ziniu Radijas, Interfax reported.
For Russia’s leaders, it is high time to start thinking whether they are adequate partners to democratic developed nations of the world. The states that are members of same institutions and international forums usually share principles and values, Kirkilas said.

According to Kirkilas, Russia has been admitted to G8 in time of Boris Yeltsin by way of advance. The West counted that it would further follow the route of market economy and democracy, but quite other signs are being currently spotted by many.

The tension in relations of Russia and the West will be growing, as parliamentary and presidential elections are drawing nearer in Russia. The tension is great inside Russia, which is manifested by authorities’ crackdown even on some trifle actions of the opposition. Russia is getting more aggressive worldwide, Kirkilas made clear.
