Russia to Be Expelled from G8, Estonian President Says
Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves doubted reasonableness of Russia’s participation in the G8 club. When addressing the Democracy and Security Conference in Prague, Ilves lashed out at the Kremlin for its response to the U.S. plans to station a missile defense system in Czechia and Poland. Russia is threatening the neighbors now, the president said, DELFI reported.
To be more precise, the president of Estonia cannot understand how the state that threatens its neighbors, threatens Europe by nuclear missiles could be a member of G8 association of democratic industrial states. According to Ilves, the European Union faces a double task – integration and attempts to come to terms with Russia.

The United States is getting ready to station a radar in Czechia and interceptors in Poland, attributing this move to the need to oppose some rogue states such as North Korea and Iran and claiming that the facilities will pose no threat to Russia.

But Russia remains skeptical. Its response to the planned deployment of the U.S. missile shield was the tests of a new cruise missile and a new ICBM. For Russia, President Vladimir Putin said, new targets in Europe will probably emerge once the United States finally stations its missile defense system in Poland and Czechia.
