Litvinenko’s Case Turns Into Political Affair
The recent events around the case of Alexander Litvinenko cloud relations of Russia and Britain, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made clear.
”The pressure is felt. From Britain, we see an attempt to turn the criminal case and the need for professional investigation into some political campaign. We are against it. The case should be the concern of respective enforcement bodies,” Lavrov explained.

The key suspect of Britain’s prosecutors, Andrey Lugovoy held news conference yesterday. Lugovoy said FSB former officer Alexander Litvinenko and businessman Boris Berezovsky had been hooked by the Britain’s intelligence, which actually helped them get asylum and citizenship of that country.

Lugovoy referred to Litvinenko’s killing as “a dark political story,” where Britain’s intelligence, Boris Berezovsky and Alexander Litvinenko played the key parts.

The case of Lugovoy, who is suspected in poisoning murder of Litvinenko and whose extradition is strongly demanded by Britain, is purely criminal with no links to intelligence, British Foreign Office announced immediately after the news conference of Lugovoy.
