E.U., Iran Failed to Agree on Tehran Nuclear Problem
In Madrid, the E.U. foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran’s top negotiator Ali Larijani have failed to make progress and find ways to resolve the crisis around disputed nuclear program of Iran.
The good news is that Ali Larijani, who is secretary of Supreme National Security Council in Iran, and the E.U. foreign policy chief Javier Solana managed to agree to meet again within two weeks. The Madrid talks were constructive enough, the officials said, never minding that no progress was actually attained.

According to Larijani, the talks were serious and transparent, but Iran won’t halt its nuclear program, as it is implemented to generate electricity. “There was no fundamental breakthrough, but I can say we made advances on some important issues,” Larijani pointed out, emphasizing they are looking for the ways to bring momentum to negotiations.

On the other hand, the standing of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in respect of Iran is quite belligerent. Iran may face the threat of a third round of U.N. Security Council sanctions if it doesn’t suspend its nuclear program, pressuarising Rice made clear.
