Lithuania Ready to Host Missile Defense System of NATO
Lithuania is ready to host a missile defense system like Poland and Czechia, ITAR-TASS reported with reference to Lithuanian Defense Minister Juozas Olekas. One of the options could be the missile defense system offered by NATO, Olekas specified.
According to Olekas, Lithuania needs missile defense facilities because of the threat posed by certain unstable countries that, in a few days, may get technological opportunities for an attack. The minister, however, didn’t name the states he was referring to.
Nowadays, NATO is developing MEADS to replace Patriot PAC-3; the deployment is slated for next decade.
MEADS leaves behind PAC-3 in capacity. It is aimed at defending against all types of aerodynamic aircraft as well as against short-range ballistic missiles at the last phase of trajectory.
