17 Percent of Russians Would Rather Live in USSR
As many as 36 percent of Russians would prefer to live in their own country without uniting with any states or joining any alliances, showed the May poll of All-Russia’s Public Opinion Center.
But 17 percent would rather live in the newly united Soviet Union, though the indicator stood at 27 percent two years ago. Eighteen percent of respondents would like to live in the union of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and 13 percent preferred the European Union. The number of those choosing CIS was just 9 percent.

Preferences of the Russians depend on the age group. The younger are the respondents, the fewer of them would rather live in the revived Soviet Union (just 7 percent in the age group of 18 years to 24 years, but 28 percent of those older than 60 years.) The tendency is quite the opposite when it comes to the European Union – 21 percent and 6 percent respectively.

All-Russia’s Public Opinion Center held the poll May 12 and 13, covering 1,600 respondents in 153 settlements of 46 regions of Russia. The statistic error doesn’t exceed 3.4 percent.
