Cannes Selection Changed to Host Rebellion: The Litvinenko Case
The Official Selection of Cannes Film Festival faced abrupt changes. The festival will host the world premier of Rebellion: The Litvinenko Case filmed by Andrey Nekrasov in cooperation with Olga Konskaya. This documentary is an unexpected late addition to the festival, The Variety reported.
The festival arrangers got the copy a few days before the start of the Cannes Film Festival. The general secrecy of decision about this film’s addition could be attributed to rather ambiguous content of the docu and to its late provision.
Rebellion: The Litvinenko Case shows the last four years of FSB former agent and then exiled dissident Alexander Litvinenko, who died of polonium poisoning in a London hospital. The creators accuse President Vladimir Putin of involvement in Litvinenko’s assassination and of giving rise to corrupt system in Russia.
Docu is produced by German company Dreamscanner Prods and France's Rezo is handling international sales. It will be shown on Saturday, May 26, and Alexander Litvinenko’s widow Marina will attend the premier.
"Making this film was a personal catharsis for me, a way of coping with the shock of losing a friend, who died a terrible death in front of my eyes," Andrey Nekrasov said as quoted by The Variety.
