Graphic Symbol of Ruble to Emerge by Summer-End
The graphic symbol of Russia’s ruble as currency could be approved before the end of this summer, said Georgy Luntovsky, who is the first deputy of chief executive officer at the Central Bank of Russia.
The working team of the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) has picked out three symbols, now it is for the CBR CEO to make the final choice and to sanction it, Luntovsky explained.
Introducing a graphic symbol for ruble is aimed at strengthening Russia’s national currency worldwide. The symbol is expected to be used both in domestic and external payment documents.
One of the hopes related to this move is making a ruble one of the currencies for the world reserves. Today’s economy calls for having a few basic currencies instead of a single one, which is the current practice, said Russia’s First Vice Premier Dmitry Medvedev. “There are all prerequisites for establishing such system,” Medvedev said, emphasizing that the ruble could become one of the reserve currencies worldwide.
