There Is a Lot of Tension with Russia, Bush Said
A lot of tension exists in current relations of Russia and the West, U.S. President George W. Bush told Reuters Monday.
According to U.S. President George Bush, Defense Secretary Robert Gates went to Moscow to reassure Putin and his government about the U.S. plans to station interceptors in Poland and a radar in Czechia.
”You know, people in his government harbor suspicions about our intention, and I was trying to allay those suspicions,” Bush said as quoted by Reuters. “But there is a lot of tension with Russia, particularly with Europe now,” the president emphasized pointing out that Russia pressurizes by energy and bans Polish meat exports.
Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had a few meetings at the highest level in Moscow, focusing, amid other things, on bilateral relations of the countries. There is no cold war between Russia and the United States, Russia’s First Vice Premier Sergey Ivanov said after speaking with Rice.
”Yes, our standing is different in a lot of issues, but there are fields where we are actively cooperating, including also the cooperation in non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. In economy, our relations advance more or less, for instance, the cooperation of United Aircraft Construction Corp. and Boeing Co.,” Ivanov emphasized.
