Lawsuit against Bank of New York Doesn’t Relate to Khodorkovsky
The lawsuit that Russia’s Federal Customs Service (FCS) filed against Bank of New York doesn’t relate to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, U.S. lawyer Steven Marx said during a news conference. Steven Marx stands for FCS in the trial. The bank laundered huge sums of money via thousands of accounts but it has nothing to do with the firms of Khodorkovsky, the lawyer made clear.
The limitation for conviction hasn’t expired yet, Steven Marx specified. The lawyer appeared very much surprised by the Bank of New York’s negative response to attempts of his client to settle the claim through pre-trial procedures.

The abusive practice of Bank of New York is mostly related to activities of Lucy Edwards, once the vice president of the bank. The bank’s management promoted her instead of dismissing despite the malpractice information. As a result, Edwards got wider access to software product of the Bank of New York.

Russia’s Federal Customs Service announced May 17 it lodged a suit against Bank of New York to Moscow Arbitration. From 1996 to 1999, the FCS lawyer said, the bank orchestrated procedures to launder money generated from goods exports to Russia, causing $22.5 billion damages to the country.

The probe into Bank of New York began in early 2000s, once the authorities of a number of states suspected its employees in being involved in the tax evasion and in laundering money of shadow economy.
