Red Army’s Bronze Soldier Boosts Rating of Estonian PM
The rating of Estonian ruling Reform Party led by PM Andrus Ansip soared from 34 percent to 46 percent in the wake of moving the Monument to Red Army’s Soldier from downtown Tallinn to a military cemetery, Postimees reported referring to the survey of TNS Emor.
The Center Party is still the second in Estonia, though its support shed 3 percent to 21 percent. The alliance of rights - Fatherland Union and Respublika - and Social & Democratic Party lost roughly the same number of supporters to 11 percent and 7 percent respectively.
The people like what the ruling party is doing, TNS Emor analyst said, pointing out that it was easy to forecast the result of the survey.
The Bronze Soldier Monument was dismantled at night to April 27 to be moved from downtown Tallinn and re-erected in the military cemetery on April 30. The event triggered the crisis in relations of Russia and Estonia, led to riots of ethnic Russians in both countries, but fueled popularity of Reform Party.
