Russia Doesn’t Doubt Quality of Estonian Foods
So far, Russia has no claims to the quality of Estonian goods, said Gennady Onishchenko, Russian chief sanitary officer and head of the country’s consumer rights watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, RIA Novosti reported.
“What for?” Onishchenko wondered when asked whether Rospotrebnadzor is willing to impose any economic or sanitary sanctions on Estonia. Late past month, the official announced he was attentively eyeing the goods delivered from Estonia for conformity to safety and quality standards. Onishchenko mentioned no claims then.
2006 turnover of Estonia and Russia reached ˆ1.5 billion with seafood accounting for the better part of Estonian exports to Russia. But the relations clouded once the Monument to Red Army’s Bronze Soldier was removed from downtown Tallinn to a military cemetery. The calls to impose economic sanctions on Estonia are not rare in Russia today.
