School Director Fined for Illegal Software
The court imposed a 5,000-ruble fine on Alexander Ponosov, director of secondary school in Sepychevo-village of Perm district, for using unlicensed software of Microsoft, RIA Novosti reported.
The judge said Ponosov admitted guilt under Clause 146 of the RF Criminal Code, which spells out the maximum sentence of 5-year imprisonment for copyright violation.

Microsoft lost 266,000 rubles as a result of the actions of school director, who was fined for it, the judge explained.

Both Ponosov and prosecutors appealed the first verdict taken for the school director, against whom the trial had been halted for petty offense reasons. According to Ponosov he went to initiate a repeated trial seeking to be admitted not guilty in part and in whole. It was the supplying firm that installed the software on computers bought by his school, the director claimed to justify his standing.
