The Time Picks 2 Russians for 100 Most Influential People
The Time has made its annual picks of the 100 most influential men and women. Chess ex-champion Garry Kasparov and opera star Anna Netrebko are on the list of 71 men and 29 women of 29 countries that are “shaping our world.”
The Time has split “people making a difference” into five categories – Artists & Entertainers, Leaders & Revolutionaries, Heroes & Pioneers, Scientists & Thinkers and Builders & Titans. Russian soprano Anna Netrebko, 35, is listed amid Artists and Entertainers, while Garry Kasparov could be found amid Heroes & Pioneers.
Shaped at Russia’s Kirov Opera Theater, beautiful and charming Anna Netrebko enjoys the worldwide popularity. “Netrebko’s blend of coal splendor and dramatic intensity has evoked comparisons with Maria Callas,” The Time wrote, emphasizing the singer’s desire to be celebrated for being herself and praising her for achieving this goal.
Chess former champion Garry Kasparov, 44, currently leads the Other Russia coalition of the opposition. The Other Russia has held a series of demonstrations, including the recent Dissenters Marches, protesting against the crackdown of Putin’s administration on democracy.
