Russia Calls On Estonia to Halt Provocation Acts
Russia has urged Estonia to avoid provoking actions that could further aggravate the relations of two countries. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the respective statement in the phone conversation with his Estonian counterpart Urmas Paet.
Russia’s standing is that “actions of Estonian authorities for dismantling the Monument to Liberator-Soldier and transferring remains of soldiers, who had given lives for fighting the fascists led to the negative aftereffects for Russia’s-Estonian relations.”
When speaking to Urmas Paet, Sergey Lavrov also emphasized necessity of expedient investigation of Dmitry Ganin’s killing and of actions of Estonian police taken to disperse rallies of protesters.
Asked about the situation around Estonia’s embassy in Moscow, Lavrov said Russia’s enforcement bodies are doing utmost so that the picketers won't violate the laws.
Russia and Estonia are at odds now. A big diplomatic conflict inflamed once the authorities of that Baltic state ruled to move the Statue of Soviet Army’s Bronze Soldier from Tonismägi Hill in downtown Tallinn to a military cemetery. This move triggered mass rioting April 27-28 and a resident of Russia was killed during the clashes.
