Yeltsin to Be Buried Next to Gen. Lebed
Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who died on Monday, will be laid to rest at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow, next to Gen. Alexander Lebed. Russia’s first elected leader will be buried this Wednesday which has been declared a day of national mourning.
Russia’s first President will be buried next to the grave of Russia’s former Security Council Secretary and Yeltsin’s one time ally, Gen. Alexander Lebed, a cemetery official told the RIA Novosti news agency on Tuesday.

Raisa Gorbacheva, wife of the former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev is also buried nearby.

The Novodevichy cemetery is temporarily closed for visitors, RIA Novosti reported.

Boris Yeltsin died of heart failure on Monday. Wednesday, the day of his funeral, has been announced a day of national mourning for the first Russian President.

The United States announced it would send former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton to Wednesday’s funeral for the first leader of post-Soviet Russia.
