Paying Respect to Yeltsin
The last respect to Russia’s First President Boris Yeltsin could be paid starting from 4:30 p.m., April 24, till 12:30 a.m., April 25. Yeltsin lies in state at the Christ the Savior Cathedral, which Volkhonka entrance is open for visitors, ITAR-TASS reported. The state funeral is slated for Wednesday.
Breaking the Soviet traditions, Boris Yeltsin will be buried at the Novodevichie cemetery instead of the Red Square. President Vladimir Putin declared Wednesday the day of national mourning in Russia. Metropolitan Juvenaly will hold the burial service.
State leaders and top-rank officials, including U.S. former presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush Senior will come April 25 to pay a last tribute to the man, who had finally dismantled the Soviet Union. “We will host numbers of notable political figures,” said Igor Neverov, director of North American Department at the RF Foreign Ministry, Interfax reported. But Mr Bush is yet to officially confirm participation, Neverov specified.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev promised to attend the burial.
