United States Has New Defense Proposals to Moscow
The United States came up with new ideas of cooperating with Russia on missile defense systems, AFP reported referring to U.S. Assistant Secretary of State John Rood.
"We brought with us some new ideas for cooperation and made it clear that we were open to cooperation with Russia across a broad range of missile defense activities," John Rood told AFP in a telephone interview after the talks with Russian diplomatic and military officials.

Rood declined to give specifics but said the matter at stake is the U.S. plans to station new missile defense system in Eastern Europe, which Russia thinks a real threat to its security.

The issue of Russia and the United States cooperation to create a missile defense system was hot with the experts and media far back in late 1990s. Then, Moscow was the initiator, but no actual steps have been taken so far.
