Russia’s Lawmakers Guarantee Crude Supplies to Lithuania
Russia has no intention to halt crude deliveries to Lithuania via Druzhba pipeline, said Viktoras Muntianas, speaker of Lithuanian Seim (Parliament), ITAR-TASS reported. The official made the statement after today’s meeting with deputies of Russia’s parliament, the State Duma.
Russia has no intention to halt crude deliveries via Druzhba pipeline, Muntianas concluded, explaining that Russia’s legislators promised to inquire about the dates of resuming supplies.

The four-day visit of State Duma’s lawmakers to Lithuania started today, April 16, 2007. The delegation is headed by Viktor Opekunov, chief of State Duma’s Energy Committee and coordinator of deputies team for ties with Lithuanian parliament.

For Lithuania, the problems of shipping crude to Mazeikiu refinery, which is the only one in the Baltic States, date back to July of 2006. The breakdown at Druzhba pipeline left the company with no crude and forced it to go to world markets. Nowadays, the deliveries are carried out via the sea terminal, bringing down refining efficiency.
