Salmonella Found in EU Meat Products
Russia will impose limitations on imports of meat products from a number of EU countries on April 13. The Federal Veterinary and Agriculture Supervision Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) reports that that decision was made based on safety monitoring of animal product imports. During recent checks, large portions of meat products contained salmonella.
For that reason, a shipment of turkeys weighing 19 tons and another 20 tons of turkey meat were not permitted into the country from Germany, as well as 20.5 tons of pork fat from Spain, 25 tons of ground chicken from The Netherlands and 24 tons of chicken backs. Another 482 tons of ground chicken from the United States also failed Rosselkhoznadzor inspection.
Rosselkhoznadzor has contacted the appropriate authorities in the countries of origin of the shipment of inedible meat and asked them to investigate the situation to prevent it from happening again.
On April 13, temporary limitations will be placed on imports to Russia from American meat processing plants P-11250 and P-17904, German plants D EZG 242 EG and DE NI EZG 592 EG, Spanish plant ES-10.19709/ZCE and Dutch plants NL5033EG, NL5029EG and NL5014EG.
