Russians Asked to Build Iran-India Pipeline
Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has asked Russian companies to build an Iran-Pakistan-India natural gas pipeline. He said that Russian companies could even lay claim to some of the share capital in the future pipeline. Aziz made these announcements during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov. The pipeline is now in its initial stages.
In 2005, Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pakistani Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources. Aziz then announced that Gazprom would develop gas deposits in Pakistan. Gazprom refused to comment on his statement at that time, however. The main consumer of Pakistani gas will be rapidly-developing India.

Fradkov stated after meeting with Aziz that they discussed a wide range of topics. He also mentioned that Russia and Pakistan have “very similar positions” on “key issues.”
