State Duma Blamed Attempted Sovereignty Violation on U.S. Department of State
The report of the U.S. Department of State treating Russia as one of the most adverse countries worldwide in terms of human rights observance is “an intention to infringe on sovereignty of the country,” the RF State Duma announced as quoted by RIA Novosti.
”Under pretence of protecting human rights and freedom of speech in Russia, [the U.S. authorities] interfere in domestic affairs of our country for purposes of violating its constitutional order and pressurizing Russia both from outside and inside,” State Duma’s deputies said in the statement shaped during the inter-party meeting on foreign policy.

The document “is of clear political nature with little resemblance to actual state of affairs,” the RF Foreign Ministry expressed its attitude to the report on April 11. The Americans had exaggerated the situation and adjusted the facts to conclusions made in advance, Russia’s diplomats said.

The tonality of the U.S. Department of State was the same when it was pressurizing to stage color revolutions, Russia’s Foreign Ministry asserted. “In fact, the matter at stake is just banal lobbying of the U.S. national interests.” According to the U.S. officials, the situation with human rights observance is OK only in the countries “sailing in the wake of the foreign policy of the U.S.,” Russia’s diplomats explained.

In interpretation of the RF Foreign Ministry, the report of the U.S. Department of State “gave the carte blanche to use human rights as a cause to interfere in domestic affairs of sovereign states.”

Russia’s Federation Council will also release a statement dedicated to that report, Speaker Sergey Mironov promised, echoing the conclusion of Foreign Ministry and viewing the document as “interference in domestic affairs of the country.”
