Yushchenko-Appointed Judges Refused to Discuss Parliament’s Dissolving
Pressurized by political forces, five judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine have rejected to discuss a decree by President Viktor Yushchenko dissolving parliament and ordering a new election, UNIAN agency reported Tuesday.
The case in point is the Constitutional Court members appointed under the president’s quota (the Constitutional Court has 18 judges overall). The said judges don’t think it possible to take part “in deliberations on the case that is of destiny nature for Ukraine” until the proper work of the court is ensured. In addition, the rejecting judges addressed the enforcement bodies seeking proper protection of the state.

On April 11, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is to set to trying the case initiated by 53 deputies of the parliament and related to conformity of the April 2 decree of Yushchenko on dissolving the Supreme Rada, which is the parliament in Ukraine.

Supporters of parliamentary coalition are rallying near the Constitutional Court headquarters. The activists are holding flags of the Regions’ Party and posters reading: “Pressurizing the Constitutional Court is a Crime,” and “For National Unity.” “There Is the People’s War On” and “The Stork on the Roof” songs are broadcast via the loud speakers installed on the minibus.
