Iran Threatens the World with 3000 Centrifuges
The number of Iran's centrifuges for enriching uranium has reached 3000. That figure was reported by the Associated Press and confirmed by Secretary of the Supreme National Council Security Council of Iran Ali Larijani. Larijani did not specify the industrial potential of the centrifuges. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said earlier at the opening ceremony for the nuclear facility at Natanz that the country had attained an “industrial level” of uranium enrichment.
In an IAEA report released on February 22, it is stated that four cascades of centrifuges had been installed at Natanz, each of which consists of 164 identical mechanisms. In addition, the report says, Iran is completing the mounting of two more cascades with 328 centrifuges. Neither Ahmadinejad nor chairman of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization Gholamreza Aghazadeh has specified what is meant by an “industrial level” of uranium enrichment.
Iran first announced the beginning of the process of uranium enrichment on April 9, 2006. At that time, 164 centrifuges were used in a single cascade. Experts suggest that 50,000-60,000 centrifuges would be needed any Natanz for the industrial production of nuclear fuel.
