Iran Trying to Start Something
Iran's decision to begin uranium enrichment on an industrial scale is its latest challenging behavior and open defiance of the international community and UN Security Council, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack commented on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's statements in connection with the new Iranian holiday, National Day of Nuclear Technology.
Iran's actions make the UN Security Council and other international bodies doubt the peaceful intentions of its nuclear program, McCormack said. He added that the IAEA's report on its inspection of Iran's nuclear facilities will be released on May 24.
Ahmadinejad declared that Iran has entered the “nuclear club.” The centrifuges at the facility at Natanz can be used to make nuclear fuel or atomic weapons. The United States and other Western countries have accused Iran of intention of creating weapons of mass destruction. Iran denies those accusations. The UN Security Council has demanded that Iran stop work toward enriching uranium and return to negotiations. The country has yet to meet that demand.
