Moscow Mayor Ready to Rule for 4 Years More
Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov isn’t willing to leave his office. Luzhkov, whose authority expires this December, intends to raise a question of confidence before President Putin already this week, Vedomosti reported.
Luzhkov has solid chances to be reelected, as no alternative has emerged so far, according to Vedomosti. The Moscow mayor was actually going to raise the question of confidence early this year, but the City Hall had to wait till the dust settled - Luzhkov’s wife Elena Baturina was in conflict and trial procedures with her brother Viktor and The Forbes.
Yury Luzhkov, 70, took over Moscow more than 15 years ago. He was appointed by Russia’s First President Boris Yeltsin in 1992 and re-elected in 1996, 1999 and 2003.
