Russia’s Far Eastern Military Base to Become Major Resort
The Russky Island in the Sea of Japan will become a major resort after Russia pulls out its troops from the area, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov said in Vladivostok on Wednesday, the Interfax reports.
The deputy prime minister made the statement after his flight to the Russky Island in the Sea of Japan off Vladivostok. A major part of military units will soon be withdrawn from the island to give way to a recreation zone.
“You don’t have to go to Egypt to go diving, watch the sea and nature,” Sergey Ivanov said referring to the would-be resort on the Russky Island. “You can go to the Far East instead.”
The vice-premier pointed out to good environment conditions on the island, saying that plans to create a recreation zone on the island are not linked with Russia’s bid to host an Asia-Pacific Cooperation summit in the Far East.
