Akhmad Kadyrov’s Assassin Killed
A warlord who claimed responsibility for the assassination of former Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov was eliminated in Chechnya, the Interfax news agency said Wednesday. Suleiman Imurzaev aka “Khairulla” put up resistance and was killed, said Chechen police.
Khairulla was one of top three Chechen warlords along with Doku Umarov and Rappani Khalilov who are still at large. Suleiman Imurzaev was known as commander of the Eastern front and deputy prime minister of the self-proclaimed republic of Ichkeria.

An operation involving special police forces and FSB started in Vedensky District late Tuesday night. Khairulla and five other militants were rounded up outside the settlement of Agishbatoi.

The operation to trace the warlord took two months, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said adding that he personally controlled the situation. Only six people were preparing the operation to keep the intelligence in secret. The group was given a task to “arrest or eliminate” Khairulla before the new president’s inauguration scheduled for April 5.

Khairulla was one of the militants who claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack which killed Akhmad Kadyrov, father of the incumbent Chechen president. Other masterminds of the assassination were eliminated earlier, Interfax notes.
