Army Sides with Yushchenko, Decree on Parliament Resolution in Force
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko’s decree to dissolve the parliament came into effect when it was published in the official gazette, the president’s press service reported Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the military forces are set to follow orders of the president, who is also the army’s commander-in-chief, according to Defense Minister Anatoly Gritsenko, the only minister to support the president’s decision.
Activists of the National Unity Coalition are moving towards the Supreme Rada in Kyiv, set to defend Rada deputies from Orange forces, the RBC news agency reported Tuesday morning. The demonstrators are going to defend the road for the deputies to enter the Rada.

Supporters of the two conflicting parties clashed in central Kyiv last night, police reported Tuesday.

Elsewhere, the Pora civic youth organization has announced the full mobilization of its members to protect the Ukrainian state. The organization said it would be patrolling the area surrounding all administrative buildings to prevent any attacks.

President Viktor Yushchenko signed a decree on Monday to dissolve the parliament, a decision that the deputies are protesting. The parliament also barred the government from financing a new election.

In the meantime, the Defense Ministry confirmed its support to the president. Officials, however, deny reports about any military vehicles being re-deployed.

At the same time, the Interior Ministry says police will not permit any actions causing the blockade of parliament, the president’s office and government’s headquarters.
