US Offers Russia to Join Its Missile Shield
The United States has offered Russia to join its anti-missile defense system, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried said Thursday.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried gave an interview for the Vesti 24 TV channel on Thursday to comment Washington’s plans to deploy U.S. missiles in Poland and Czech Republic. Mr. Fried noted that the system consists of 10 small missiles without warheads, which pose no threat to Russia.

Russia sees the missile shield as an encroachment on its former sphere of influence and security. Germany and NATO chief have also joined Russia in its accusations of splitting Europe along new lines.

Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained to U.S President George Bush reasons for Russia’s concerns over America’s plans to deploy missiles in Eastern Europe.

The United States has offered to deploy a radar station in Czech Republic and 10 interceptor missiles in Poland. The U.S. administration says the system would counter threats from rogue states like Iran and North Korea. Both Warsaw and Prague have already agreed to start talks on the deployment.
