Castro Says Bush Wants to Kill 3 Bln People
Cuba’s leader Fidel Castro has published his first article after months of silence following intestical surgery in July, blasting U.S. President George W. Bush for his environmental policies, the AFP news agency reported Thursday.
The Granma newspaper on Thursday published Fidel Castro’s article headlined “Condemned to premature death by hunger and thirst more than 3 billion people in the world”. The Cuban leader asserts that 3 billion people may become victims of America’s plan to use crops to produce ethanol for cars, which will ultimately deplete food stocks in developing countries.

The article went out a few weeks after George Bush’s trip around Latin America where the U.S. president called for diversification of energy sources and use of ethanol as alternative fuel for automobiles. The U.S. president believes that these steps will make policies of Latin American nations more independent. At the same time, analysts have called it an attempt to undermine the influence of Venezuela, one of the world’s largest oil producers.

The Venezuelan leader has been extremely supportive of Fidel Castro during his illness. Hugo Chavez paid several visits and made scores of phone calls to the ailing Cuban president.
