Russia to Have Over 200 McDonald’s by Year-End
In Russia, the number of McDonald's fast food restaurants will exceed 200 by the end of this year, Interfax reported citing Khamzat Khasbulatov, who is McDonald’s president in Russia and Eastern Europe.
“We intend to launch more than 30 fast food restaurants this year, approaching the markets of Tyumen and Volgograd for the first time,” Khasbulatov told reporters in Moscow on Wednesday.
Nowadays, 170 restaurants of the company are operating in Russia, including 23 opened past year. “It is the greatest number for all years of McDonald’s work in Russia,” according to top manager.
The better part of new restaurants will be opened in Moscow and Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and the cities with at least million residents, i.e. where McDonald's is represented today. Past year’s direct investments exceeded 1 billion rubles. “It will be much more this year,” Khasbulatov specified.
Khasbulatov said all restaurants of the chain are corporate and they have no restaurants operating under franchising terms. “We will continue to advance in the framework of corporate strategy. We are working with franchising documents, but are yet unready to provide franchise,” he pointed out.
McDonald's has been working in Russia since 1991.
